MOQs vary by category and are set by the workshop, not by us. As a guide: felt products 50-500 pieces per design (rugs and large items 10-50, felt balls 100-500), pashmina 50 pieces per colour, lokta paper 50-100 pieces for finished products, jewelry 50 pieces per design, singing bowls 20 pieces per size, wooden carvings 10-20 pieces, thangka 5-10 pieces per design, and metal statues 5-10 pieces for standard designs. Single-piece custom commissions are quoted individually. Nepali MOQs are lower than Chinese factory MOQs because production is workshop-based rather than assembly-line, and most workshops will run a sample quantity before a bulk commitment.

We ship worldwide via air freight (DHL, FedEx) for samples and urgent orders, and via sea freight for large wholesale shipments. All products are professionally packed with appropriate protection. We handle export documentation including customs invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and any product-specific certificates (fumigation for wood, silver hallmarking, etc.).

It depends on the destination and the HS code. Nepal is a Least Developed Country, so most handicrafts enter the EU duty-free under the Everything But Arms scheme, provided a certificate of origin accompanies the shipment. US preference programmes for Nepali goods have changed repeatedly and lapse between renewals, so we will not tell a US buyer their goods arrive duty-free — have your customs broker confirm the current treatment against the specific HS code before you budget. Correct classification and a certificate of origin are what actually determine what you pay.

Quality is arranged per order rather than through a standing programme. We agree the specification with you in writing before production starts, and we send pre-shipment photographs of the actual goods for your approval before anything is packed. For a first order we strongly recommend samples, because handmade work varies between workshops and photographs of someone else's piece are not a specification. If you would rather not rely on our word, independent inspection agencies operate in Kathmandu and we will work with the inspector you appoint, at your cost.

We buy face to face from the workshops themselves and pay the asking price on the spot, in cash, without haggling the maker down — which is the part of fair trade that actually reaches the person who did the work. No exporter, no agent, no consolidator taking a cut in between. We can tell you which workshop a piece came from and what we paid for it, which is a harder thing to say than holding a certificate.

Absolutely. We encourage all new buyers to order samples first. Sample orders are priced at retail rates and shipped via express courier. Sample costs can be credited against your first wholesale order. Typical sample delivery takes 5-10 business days depending on your location.
